The magnificent 16-Day Great Camps of East Africa Itinerary explores the best of Kenya and Tanzania, and finishes with the choice of either the exotic island of Zanzibar OR the Mountain Gorilla Sanctuary in Uganda. Starting in Kenya, in a group of no more than twelve guests, you fly in private aircraft between all the most memorable places in East Africa, staying at some of the very best camps and lodges. You see the vast plains of Amboseli, the beautiful Mt. Kilimanjaro and the magnificent Maasai Mara National Park. Follow the wildlife migration route south into Tanzania’s famous Serengeti, and explore the breathtaking Ngorongoro Crater. For a perfect finale you are transported to an tropical island idyll on the exotic spice islands of Zanzibar.

getting around

All road transfers between regional airports, hotels and camps will be arranged. Extra time at the beginning and end of the itinerary allows for any incoming or outgoing flight delays that may occur.

  • Day 1 – Flight Arrival Nairobi, Kenya, Transfer to downtown Nairobi, Overnight at the Fairmont Norfolk Hotel.
  • Day 2 & 3 – Departure from Nairobi, Transfer to Amboseli National Park, Kenya, Tortilis Camp.
  • Day 4, 5 & 6 – Depart Amboseli & transfer to Maasai Mara National Park, Kenya – Sanctuary Olanana Camp.
  • Day 7, 8 & 9 – Depart Maasai Mara, Kenya Regional Flight to Serengeti National Park, Tanzania – Transfer to Sanctuary Swala Camp.
  • Day 10 & 11 – Depart Sanctuary Swala Camp – Air transfer to Ngorongoro Crater National Park – Ngorongoro Crater Lodge.
  • Day 12 – Depart Ngorongoro Crater – Flight to Arusha, Tanzania – Onward flight to Zanzibar Intl. Airport – Transfer to Mnemba Island resort.
  • Day 13, 14 & 15 – Full day tours during stay at Mnemba – Prison Island, Stone Town, Spice Plantations – Mnemba Island Resort.
  • Day 16 – Depart Mnemba Island, Zanzibar – Transfer to Zanzibar Intl Airport – Flight to Nairobi, Kenya or Arusha,Tanzania.

All accommodation is upmarket and varies from grand under-canvas style, to luxury game lodges and, in the cities, 5-star hotels. Camp accommodation has comfortable beds, mosquito netting, en-suite facilities with flush toilets, bathrooms with hot and cold running water and sometimes showers that are open to the sun.

East Africa’s Kenya, Tanzania/Zanzibar and Uganda Tourist Visa is obtainable upon arrival but can be applied for at embassies in your homeland before travelling to East Africa. We recommend you to check visa requirements with your local home affairs before travelling to East Africa. We recommend that you bring exact denominations in cash for visa processing on arrival. Passports must be valid (at least 6 months after date of travel) and have at least 3 blank unendorsed pages. A new Uni-Visa for the KAZA (Kavango-Zambezi Transfrontier Conservation Area) countries is available at US$50 – obtainable on arrival and currently covering Zambia, Zimbabwe and a day-only entry into Botswana. Angola and Namibia will soon be joining the experimental tourist UniVisa scheme.
This itinerary depends on local environment and seasons and could be subject to change. Any unavoidable changes to accommodation or activities will be as close a match as possible to the original itinerary.
  • This itinerary travels to Camps/Lodges located in malaria tsetse fly areas.
  • All clients are advised to visit their medical clinic or doctor to obtain prescribed anti-malaria prophylactic tablets.

  • Zambia is in a yellow fever zone. Vaccination not obligatory but recommended.
