Inspired by Tanzania’s annual Great Migration, andBeyond Grumeti Serengeti Tented Camp is located on the Western Corridor of the renowned Serengeti National Park near one of the most famous fording points used by the wildebeest as the cross the Grumeti River in an area that is home to exceptional year-round resident wildlife. Rustic yet sophisticated, the intimate tents combine hues of natural grey with. The camp’s location is on a tributary of the Grumeti River ideally positioned for sightings of dramatic river crossings when the famous Great Wildebeest Migration is in the area. However, the wildlife experience can be even more spectacular when the Migration is not nearby, with a staggering density of year-round wildlife and relatively few tourists encountered in this part of the reserve. While the camp itself is sheltered in the riverside thickets and provides beautiful views of a river bend inhabited by hippo, game drives venture out into the wide open plains, where guests can enjoy the quintessential Serengeti landscapes in open 4×4 safari vehicles with canvas canopies.
Camp’s Bedrooms, bathrooms and Surrounding
AndBeyond Grumeti Serengeti Tented Camp comprise of (12) tents in the north-western part of the forgotten part of Tanzania. The Camp hosts two tents suitable for families connected by an enclosed walkway to allow easy access to the chalets while maintaining complete privacy and safety. Sophisticated accommodation yet rustic safari life-style that provide with well-equipped Safari Tents with its natural colours and materials that the tents blends into the natural surroundings. Each of the ten tented suites offers shaded private decks which offer views onto the river and its resident hippo. The open-fronted dining and sitting areas, as well as the domed bar, are all decorated with beaded artefacts reflecting Maasai traditional colorful tribe. The spacious decks provided an ideal location from where sundowners can best be enjoyed overlooking the water as well as the rim-flow swimming pool.
Camp Accessibility
The Camp can be accessed various charter flights that provide daily scheduled flights from the town of Arusha to the Airstrip. Once passengers land they are taken on a 5 to 10-minute drive to the Serengeti Tented Camp.
Camp’s Quick Safari high-lights
With the Grumeti River providing a permanent water source, the area is particularly rich in predators, with massive lion prides and extensive clans of hyena numbering up to a hundred frequently spotted. The river also attracts large herds of buffalo and elephant, while the open plains are the ideal habitat for cheetah. Riverside drives are bound to spot the massive crocodiles that the area is renowned for, while birders will be amazed by the number of endemic species spotted throughout the area. The thickets near the camp are home to colobus monkeys, which cannot be seen anywhere else in the Serengeti, while the area also plays host to a far lesser known migration, during which large numbers of topi antelope move across the plains.
The Grumeti Serengeti area is famous for the fantastic wildebeest crossings and enormous Nile crocodiles. In June and July every year, Africa migration passes through the Grumeti region. During the other months of the year, this part of the world provides spectacular wildlife viewing away from the crowds.
Children Camp Access Policy
Notes: Roho ya Selous Camp accepts children from the age of five, however, guests are encouraged to be very cautious with very young children to visit camps – which are unfenced and in the heart of big-game country and both children are better-suited to older children – and even would need constant supervision by their parents.
